Wedding Place Cards

A wedding invitation opens the story of a celebration. The wedding place card is one of its final, intimate details—the small gesture that welcomes each guest to the table and quietly tells them, you have a place here.

Why The Illustrations On Wedding Place Cards Say More Than Words

A wedding place card may be small, but it offers one more opportunity to carry the visual story of your wedding all the way to the table. The right illustration can echo the flowers in your arrangements, complement the pattern of your china, pick up a color from your palette, or reflect the character of your venue—whether that means a romantic garden, a grand ballroom, a sporting lodge, or a distinctly New Orleans setting.

I think of illustrated wedding place cards as another layer of the overall design rather than simply a way to tell guests where to sit. When the artwork feels connected to the surroundings, every detail begins to speak the same visual language, making the table—and the celebration as a whole—feel beautifully considered.

The Place Card Is One of the First Details a Guest Notices at the Table

Before the first course is served or a toast is raised, your guest finds their name and takes their seat. The personalized place card waiting for them becomes part of that first impression of the tablescape—the flowers, linens, china, menu, candlelight, and all of the other details you so carefully considered and curated.

But a wedding place card represents more than a lovely detail—it is the final expression of a thoughtfully curated seating plan. Where you place your guests creates opportunities for people who may not otherwise cross paths to sit beside one another, share a conversation, and perhaps leave the evening having made a new friend. That little card signals that care has gone into every layer of the celebration—not only how the table looks, but who gathers around it and the connections that might be made there.

Personalized Place Cards Carry The Character Of The Occasion

The right illustration should never feel like decoration simply added for decoration’s sake. It can say something about who you are, where you are celebrating, or what you love.

Two alligators kissing at a New Orleans wedding have an entirely different personality from a refined bamboo motif at a garden celebration. A pheasant at a hunting lodge rehearsal dinner might nod to a couple’s shared love of the sporting life. The possibilities are wonderfully personal.

That is what I love most about illustrated wedding place cards: something only a few inches wide can carry an extraordinary amount of personality. Like every thoughtful choice at a wedding, the artwork becomes another quiet expression of taste, intention, and hospitality.

Wedding Place Cards Worth Writing On

Each of my wedding place cards begins with an original illustration drawn by hand in my New Orleans atelier. Choosing one is another opportunity to carry the visual language of your wedding onto the table—perhaps echoing your floral décor, complementing your china, reflecting the character of your venue, or simply capturing something wonderfully personal about the two of you.

Each pack includes 10 place cards, flat printed in New Orleans with environmentally friendly soy-based ink on premium, USA-made Ecru Textured Laid 100# Cover Stock. Most measure 4" × 5" flat and 4" × 2.5" folded, with ample room for a guest’s name to be beautifully handwritten or rendered in calligraphy. Beyond the wedding table, I love using them as elegant labels for buffets, bars, dessert tables, and family-style gatherings.

  • Poppin' Bottles With Models Place Card: Champagne, fashion, and a healthy dose of irreverence make this one perfect for a wedding that doesn't take itself too seriously. I love Poppin' Bottles with Models for a glamorous reception, bridal luncheon, rehearsal dinner, or any table where the champagne is flowing and the dress code has a little swagger.
  • It's My Party Place Card: My celebratory frog raises his champagne glass with a wonderfully regal sense of humor. He feels right at home at a festive birthday or wedding table filled with bold flowers, beautiful china, and guests who know how to have a good time. For the couple who wants elegance without stuffiness, this fellow sets exactly the right tone.
  • Party Bunny Place Card: One of my beloved Party Animals, this whimsical bunny is particularly charming among spring flowers, garden-inspired décor, and romantic pastel palettes. I love her for spring weddings, bridal showers, garden ceremonies, and celebrations where the mood is joyful, playful, and pretty.
  • Doe Wreath Place Card: Quiet and romantic, my doe surrounded by a delicate wreath brings the beauty of the natural world to the table. It pairs beautifully with woodland florals, greenery, natural linens, and the warmth of a country or lodge setting, making it especially lovely for fall weddings, winter celebrations, outdoor ceremonies, holiday tables, rehearsal dinners and any gathering where natural beauty and classic refinement set the tone.
  • Pheasant Place Card: For a country wedding or sporting celebration, my Pheasant Place Card has the distinguished character of a vintage sporting engraving. Imagine it alongside tartan, autumnal flowers, silver, antlers, or rustic wood. It is particularly fitting for rehearsal dinners, country weddings, sporting weekends, Thanksgiving, and celebrations after a great hunt.
  • Acorn Border Place Card: Oak leaves and acorns have long symbolized strength, prosperity, and abundance—rather lovely sentiments for a marriage. This delicate leafy border works beautifully with autumnal flowers and foliage, rich seasonal colors, and natural tablescapes, making it an elegant choice for fall weddings, country weddings,  rehearsal dinners and Thanksgiving.
  • Bamboo Lattice Place Card: Inspired by classic garden architecture and decorative interiors, my Bamboo Lattice illustration brings a timeless touch of chinoiserie to the table. It is particularly beautiful paired with blue-and-white china, lush greenery, garden florals, or a chinoiserie-inspired wedding palette. I love it for garden weddings, spring ceremonies, bridal luncheons, elegant rehearsal dinners and curated dinner parties.
  • Kissing Gators Place Card: For a New Orleans wedding, two alligators stealing a kiss are hard to resist. This illustration brings romance, humor, and an unmistakable sense of place to the table—particularly wonderful when other details of the celebration nod to Louisiana or the Crescent City. Measuring 3.5" × 5" flat and 3.5" × 2.5" when folded. I love these New Orleans wedding place cards for engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, and wedding receptions with a little Southern soul. How To Choose The Right Place Card For Your Wedding

I always suggest looking at the wedding as a whole before choosing your wedding place cards. What story are the venue, flowers, china, linens, colors, and other decorative details already telling? Your place card offers one more opportunity to carry that story onto the table.

The illustration does not have to match everything literally. In fact, I prefer when it makes a subtle connection—perhaps picking up the botanical feeling of the flowers, reflecting the architecture or setting of the venue, complementing a pattern in the china, or simply capturing the personality and spirit of the couple.

Match The Illustration To The Wedding Aesthetic

For a garden ceremony or spring wedding filled with greenery and flowers, Bamboo Lattice or Party Bunny can feel perfectly at home. For an autumn celebration, country estate, Thanksgiving or a sporting lodge, Doe Wreath, Pheasant, and Acorn Border bring the character of the natural world and the feeling of an Old World engraving to the table.

Then there are weddings where the aesthetic is less about season and more about personality and sense of place. Kissing Gators brings an unmistakable wink of New Orleans to a Louisiana celebration, while Poppin' Bottles with Models and It's My Party tell your guests from the moment they sit down that this is going to be a very good party.

I particularly love when an illustration reappears elsewhere in the celebration. A motif from the place cards can carry onto cocktail napkins, cups, or other entertaining pieces, creating a subtle visual thread from the dinner table to the bar. Browse my Host with the Most collection for coordinating pieces that can help carry that story throughout the celebration.

Wedding Escort Cards vs. Place Cards: What’s the Difference?

Although wedding escort cards and place cards are often confused, they serve two different purposes. An escort card is typically displayed at the entrance to the reception and directs each guest to their assigned table. A place card awaits them at the table, marking the specific seat that has been thoughtfully chosen for them.

I particularly love place cards because they allow you to curate not only who shares a table, but who sits beside whom. Weddings bring together family and friends from so many different chapters of your lives, and a considered seating plan can introduce people who might never otherwise have had the opportunity to meet, talk, and discover something in common.

My Place Cards collection includes illustrated designs that can be used for either presentation, depending on the needs of your reception. Whether your guests first encounter them as escort cards or find them waiting at their seats, the artwork offers one more opportunity to carry the visual story and personality of your wedding into the celebration.

When Wedding Place Cards Go Beyond the Reception Table

For me, wedding place cards are not limited to the wedding reception. A wedding weekend often includes several beautifully planned gatherings, and each one is an opportunity to use illustrated paper details to give the occasion its own personality while still feeling curated and connected to the celebration as a whole.

  • The Rehearsal Dinner: The rehearsal dinner often has a personality all its own, making it a wonderful opportunity to have a little fun with the illustration. Poppin’ Bottles with Models is my personal favorite for a rehearsal dinner—it immediately sets the tone that a fabulous weekend of celebration has officially begun. For a dinner at a country estate or sporting lodge, Pheasant or Doe Wreath can instead echo the setting and atmosphere, giving the evening its own distinctive character while still feeling beautifully considered as part of the wedding weekend.
  • The Welcome Dinner: For destination weddings and multi-day celebrations, the welcome dinner is often the first moment everyone gathers together. A meticulously illustrated place card at the welcome dinner is the first impression guests have of the couple's hosting style. It also sets the standard for all that follows.
  • The Bridal Shower: A bridal shower is as much a celebration of female friendship as it is a celebration of the bride and her upcoming marriage, which is why Party Bunny is one of my favorite illustrations for the occasion. Playful, spirited, and wonderfully feminine, she feels perfectly at home at a table surrounded by the women who have loved, supported, and cheered on the bride throughout her life. It’s a charming way to celebrate not only the love story that brought everyone together, but the friendships that helped shape the woman saying “I do.”
  • The Thank You Note That Follows: The celebration may end, but the correspondence certainly should not. I love the idea of carrying an illustration, color, or visual theme from the wedding into the handwritten thank-you notes that follow. My Notecards collection offers original illustrated designs that make those final expressions of gratitude feel every bit as thoughtful as the celebration itself.

What I love about these small day-of details is how much they can communicate. Every card I design is created with the hope that it feels worth keeping long after the celebration has ended. That is the standard I hold for everything I create: even the smallest piece of paper should feel special, personal, and beautifully considered. It is why, to me, the illustration matters every bit as much as the name written beside it.
